What this removes
It drops the encoder-software tag and the "encoded by" tag from the MP3's ID3 block, and keeps every other tag as it was. The audio is never re-encoded, so the sound is untouched. To clear the identifying tags too, the title, artist, comments and dates, use the full audio metadata remover, or edit them by hand with the audio tag editor.
What it cannot remove
This clears the tags that name your gear in writing. It does not touch the recording itself, so a microphone's own faint acoustic signature, and a mains hum that can hint at when and where a clip was made, both survive, because they live in the sound, not the tags. Erasing those needs a tool that reshapes the audio, which is where a GPU-backed cleaner goes beyond this free in-browser strip.
Only MP3, for now
This works on MP3, where these tags live in the ID3 block and can be removed on their own. FLAC, M4A and Ogg keep their tags in other containers, which cannot be rewritten losslessly in the browser yet. For those, the audio metadata remover still drops them (by re-saving the file), it just clears the other tags at the same time.
