What this removes
It clears the device-identity tags: the camera make and model, the body and lens serial numbers, the lens make and model, any owner or artist name, and the maker-note block that phone and camera makers write. On a JPEG this is done directly and the picture is not re-compressed. It leaves timestamps, exposure and location alone, so use the full metadata remover if you want everything gone.
What it cannot remove
Removing the tags stops the easy link, but every camera sensor also leaves a faint, invisible noise pattern in the pixels themselves, a kind of fingerprint that can tie photos to the same device even with no tags at all. Erasing that lives in the pixels, not the metadata, and needs a model to do it cleanly, which is where a GPU-backed version goes beyond this free in-browser strip.
